Sanuki, Kagawa
Sanuki (さぬき市, Sanuki-shi) is a city located in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan.
As of March 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 53,865, with 20,237 households and a population density of 339.01 persons per km². The total area is 158.81 km2 (61.32 sq mi).
The modern city of Sanuki was founded on April 1, 2002 and is the merger of five towns from the western part of the former Ōkawa District: Shido, Tsuda, Nagao, Sangawa and Ōkawa.
Ōkubo-ji, the 88th and final temple of the Shikoku 88 temple pilgrimage is within the city, also famous for Shido-ji and Nagao-ji. Nagao-ji holds Shamisen-mochitsuki, a yearly new-years event on January 2.
