Tōkamachi, Niigata
Tōkamachi (十日町市, Tōkamachi-shi) is a city located in southwest Niigata Prefecture, in the Hokuriku region of Japan. As of 1 June 2016, the city had an estimated population of 54,1043 and a population density of 91.6 persons per km². Its total area was 590.39 square kilometres (227.95 sq mi), including the post-creation undefined boundary areas. The city's mayor is Yoshifumi Sekiguchi, who was elected in May 2009. Tokamachi derives its name from the fact that on the tenth day of the month, the town's local market was held. Similarly, nearby Muikamachi had its own local market held on the sixth day of the month.
